The Portage Package
Having a child with additional needs, it means Early Intervention has been key to our journey. Receiving the Portage Model with an amazing Portage Worker was totally life changing for us, I was truly devastated when the programme finished and we were signed off.

I went on to train in the Portage Model, and combined with my experience of being a SEN mama, and my years working as a Special Educational Needs Co-Ordinator (SENCO) in the Early Years, I have been so driven to bridge the gap in the service.

Its no secret that waiting lists are lengthy, which can be frustrating and tiresome when you need support, and the devastation and sense of loss when the model is finished.

I have put together a package to access to Portage Model with me and continue to access the support, or receive a part of it whilst you wait. We will break down targets, and I will give you activities to support your child's development in both the Prime and Specific areas of learning, using a small steps approach, which means breaking down your goals in to smaller and far more achievable ones in the short-term, for a sense of accomplishment, that all work towards your long-term goal
What is Portage?
Portage provides early intervention and support.
It has three main elements:
- Child-led play, enabling children to initiate play.
- Family focus, giving families the opportunity to talk about their experiences.
- Structured teaching, planning activity and play around everyday situations that families and children can practice together.

Most portage services have criteria to determine who is eligible to receive them. These criteria's will vary from area to area, however Loving Little Minds is happy to support any child and family who needs and will benefit from the support of the Portage Model.

Portage aims to:
-
work with families to help them develop a quality of life and experience, for themselves and their young children, in which they can learn together, play together, participate and be included in their community in their own right.
-
play a part in minimising the disabling barriers that confront young children and their families.
-
support the national and local development of inclusive services for children.

Portage workers aim to support, advocate, listen and make your whole parenting journey in the Early Years more relaxed, balanced and enjoyable.
